Responsible gambling

At MilkyWay we want playing to stay entertainment. Our casino is for adults aged 18 and over, and gambling is never a way to make money or to solve a financial problem.

Warning signs

  • You play for longer than you planned
  • You try to win back losses
  • You borrow money to gamble
  • You hide how much you play
  • You play to escape a bad day

Tools in your account

Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are in your MilkyWay account. Set a deposit limit before you start and keep to it; if you need help with any of these tools, our support team will set them up with you.

GamStop and self-exclusion

MilkyWay operates under a Curaçao licence and is not part of GamStop, the UK national self-exclusion scheme. That means a GamStop registration does not block an account here. If you have self-excluded through GamStop, you made that decision for a reason: please do not open a MilkyWay account. Free blocking software such as Gamban, and the gambling block that most UK banks offer in their apps, stop payments and access across sites.

How to keep it under control

Decide your budget before you open the cashier and treat it as the cost of an evening out — money you can afford to spend. Set a time limit as well and stop when it is up, whether you are winning or losing. Don’t play to recover a loss, when you are tired, after drinking or when you are going through a hard time.

No casino game guarantees a win. Slots, live tables and crash games are games of chance, and one result never predicts the next. If gambling is taking up more space in your life than you want, take a break and talk to someone you trust.

Take a break

A time-out is the fastest tool when a session is going badly: choose one in your account and take the pause before you play again. If you want to stop for good, use self-exclusion — and do not open a new account. A break works best when you also remove saved cards from your devices and log out of the casino on your phone.

Block gambling payments and sites

Most UK banks and card issuers, including the large high-street banks and app-based banks, let you switch on a gambling block in their app. It stops card payments to gambling merchants, usually with a cooling-off period before it can be switched off again. Blocking software such as Gamban works on phones and computers and blocks gambling sites and apps across the internet, including casinos that are not part of GamStop.

If someone close to you gambles

Gambling problems affect families, partners and friends too. You do not have to wait for the person who gambles to ask for help: GamCare and BeGambleAware support affected others directly, free and in confidence. Talking about money openly, agreeing who manages shared accounts and avoiding lending money for gambling are good first steps.

Not sure whether your own play is still under control? BeGambleAware’s short online self-assessment asks a few honest questions about the last twelve months and points you to the right kind of support for your answers.
